Saksham Scholarship Scheme for Specially Abled Students
Saksham is a scholarship scheme initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and implemented by AICTE. This scheme is aimed at providing motivation, encouragement, and financial support to specially abled students to pursue technical education.
The Saksham Scholarship Scheme ensures that no specially abled student is left behind due to financial constraints and is given a fair chance to pursue higher technical studies and build a secure and successful future.
🌟 Salient Features of the Saksham Scheme
- Total Number of Scholarships: 1000 per annum (500 for Degree and 500 for Diploma courses)
- Transferable Slots: If eligible applicants are not available for either Degree or Diploma, scholarships may be transferred to the other category.
- Eligibility:
- Admitted to 1st year of Degree or Diploma course in any AICTE-approved institution
- Admission through centralized admission process by State/Central Government
- Specially abled students with at least 40% disability
- Annual family income should not exceed ₹8 lakh
- (For married girls, the higher of parents’ or in-laws’ income will be considered)
- Selection: Based on merit from qualifying examinations
💰 Scholarship Amount
- Tuition Fee: Up to ₹30,000 per year (or actual tuition fee, whichever is less)
- ₹2,000 per month for 10 months to cover incidental charges
- In case of tuition fee waiver/reimbursement, a support of ₹30,000 is provided for:
- Books, Equipment, Software, Laptop/Desktop
- Vehicle
- Competitive exam application fees
- Special tools/equipment for visually impaired or speech/hearing disabled students
